About the research

My PhD project examines the development of minority rights and minority protection from the First World War until todaty. The Åland Islands, part of the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland, are my case study. Of particular interest are the shifts between collective and individual rights: When the Ålandic regime was created by the League of Nations in 1921, focus was on the national minority as a group. After the Second World War, a framework for individual human rights has evolved and the minority rights of today are part of this.
